Hey Guy’s and Gal’s, I just got through watching a video by Mark McLaren over at WordPress TV that talks about WordPress and the Social Web.

This video was very enlightening and really made me think about the direction of even my own website and the services that I provide in regards to website design.

The Static Website, is now becoming almost obsolete. And I say this only because we are social creatures and genuinely need that social interaction. Whether it be a one on one situation or in a group setting we are social creatures and long for some type of interaction.

WordPress And Social Media are bridging the gap. We can now with the combination of WordPress and other Social Media websites such as Twitter, Facebook, Linked-In and so many others, enter into a whole new realm of communication.

Are you engaging your customers and or visitors in such a way that will cause them to interact with you, whether on a business or personal level?

Take a few moments to watch the video by Mark and let us know your thoughts.

What are you doing in your current online presence to interact with your customers and visitors?

Until next time, have a wonderful day

- by Timothy Caron

Hey Guy’s and Gal’s,

With the advent of CMS (better known as a Content Management Systems), many new comers to the web are still having website designers and programmers develop static websites that need constant updating by the website designer or programmer.

And this cost you alot of money. The average website designer may charge you in excess of $50 to $150 for a simple update. And there is no need for this, let me show you the advantages of using a CMS program for your website.

1) Ease of use
2) You can add or edit all the content yourself, this puts you in control of your website.
3) Interaction, visitors to your site can interact with you by posting their comments on your articles.
4) Adding Plugins or Modules, these plugins or modules can totally transform the functionality of your website.

For example:

Plugins for shopping carts
Plugins for Audio and Video Streaming
Plugins for Support and Message Boards

and the list goes on.

Plus there are hundreds if not thousands of free templates that you can use for your CMS Program, especially if you use some of the most popular programs like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal or even Blogger.

Have you been infected?
- by Timothy Caron

Hey Guy’s and Gal’s, Tim he with an update for those of you who host your own WordPress Blog.

In recent months many people have become infected with a worm that very cleverly post malware and spam to some wordpress blogs who use older versions of wordpress before 2.8.4.

Jennifer from CNET news has more…

HELP ME!

WordPress blogs falling prey to worm

A worm is circulating that can post malware and spam to some WordPress blogs using outdated versions of the blogging software, according to a post by Matt Mullenweg, founding developer of WordPress.

The worm can be tough to catch, as Mullenweg explains: “it registers a user, uses a security bug (fixed earlier in the year) to allow evaluated code to be executed through the permalink structure, makes itself an admin, then uses JavaScript to hide itself when you look at users page, attempts to clean up after itself, then goes quiet so you never notice while it inserts hidden spam and malware into your old posts.”

The vulnerability allowing the attack was discovered August 11, at which point WordPress encouraged users to upgrade to version 2.8.4. However, many people have yet to upgrade, and reports online indicate the worm is making dubious progress by the hour.

The worm does not affect the current version 2.8.4 and the one prior to it. And it only affects people who host their own WordPress blog. Blogs hosted on WordPress.com are unaffected.

Users can find upgrade links and instructions here. WordPress has also posted an FAQ for people who think their blog has been hacked.

What Can WordPress Really Do For Your?

WordPress makes it extremely easy to add pages (articles, blog posts, about us, etc.), build photo galleries, work with writers, upgrade to a new version, track information and monetize.

According to the WordPress.org website…
“WordPress is an Open Source project, which means there are hundreds of people all over the world working on it. (More than most commercial platforms.) It also means you are free to use it for anything from your cat’s home page to a Fortune 500 web site without paying anyone a license.”

The three main components of the WordPress system are as follows:

WordPress Core – Provides lots of great functionality;

WordPress Plugins – With over 5,500 plugins available, you can add extra features and functionality to your site;

WordPress Themes – Completely change the look of your website by choosing a new theme.

For a more technical explanation of WordPress, there is a great deal of information available on the website: http://www.wordpress.org.

Instead of focusing on the ‘technical’ aspects of the system, I’d like to take the time to share the many benefits of WordPress:

Easy to install and set-up – It’s easy to download and install the software script to get started. BlueHost makes it easy by offering a one-button installation.

Easy to add extra functionality – WordPress themes make changes a breeze. Choose from a countless number of colors and designs.

Easy to backup your website – There are WordPress plugins available that will automatically save a copy of your content, keeping you safe from data disasters.

Easy to add video and audio – Again, WordPress offers plugins that will add video and audio content to your site in the click of a button.

Easy to control spam – In addition to the spam blockers built in to WordPress, plugins offer added security.

On top of it all, when you get stuck, finding the solution to your problem is a breeze. The WordPress websites feature several troubleshooting guides, and with hundreds of thousands of users, the answers to your questions may just be a quick online search away.

Of course, in order to take advantage of this user-friendly system, you need an Internet connection, a web host (make sure PHP/MySQL is supported – even if it sounds like a foreign language to you), a domain name (www name), a theme, a few plugins, and an FTP program, which is just a tool used to upload information to the Internet.

If you are a business owner, there’s a good chance you already have most of this to-do list completed.

If you’re still weighing the pros and cons of branching out online, post your comments below and we’ll provide an answer.

Have a wonderful day!

Until next time,
