Is personal branding valuable?
I am often asked how an individual can brand themselves and if personal branding is as valuable as corporate branding. Personal branding can single an individual out as an expert in their field, but are there downfalls to personal branding vs. company branding?
Truth is personal branding is easier than company branding. Why? Because if you believe in your talent, in your skills and ability – it’s easier to sell what you believe in. Your image is already created – you just have to market it. How do you market yourself? That’s easy. You must become:
A pro in your industry; an expert in your field.
With that said are there downfalls to personal branding? Absolutely. Unless you plan to work until your last living day, it will be difficult to transition the brand to someone else. After all you are the BRAND! If you are ok with the fact that in order to transition out of the brand you will need to create a new one that your consumers can grasp onto then personal branding may just be for you.
When branding yourself remember that you must create a strong and consistent brand. You cannot skimp just because it’s about you.
Strong brands are clear about who they are and what they are not; which is why branding yourself can be an easy process. You already know who you are and what you are not. Strong brands are also consistent; it’s easy to be consistent in who you are.
Let’s take for example Madonna. She was her brand. Since the start of her career she has had the ability to change consistently throughout her career. This made her stand out from among other performers. This in essence strengthened her individual brand.
By branding yourself effectively you will:
* Establish yourself as an expert in your chosen field.
* Build a solid reputation within your industry.
* Increase your notoriety and improve your perceived value in the marketplace.
The key to successfully branding yourself and doing it effectively is to first establish a personal brand identity. Once you have done that focus that message on who you are and what you stand for within your chosen field. Your final step is to get the word out through a variety of media channels that are viewed by the people most likely to be interested in your message.
As people begin to see your name and become aware of the benefit and knowledge that you offer, before you know it thousands of people will not only know who you are but they will begin to seek out your services and expertise. They will identify with your brand which is YOU.
Until next time, have a wonderful day

What shapes and molds us into who we are?
Hi everyone,
Sorry for the delay in keeping up with my rantings, but just recently I came upon a video on Google that really shocked me, you can watch the movie below or click on the previous link. Please note that the movie is a little over 2 hours long, and must be viewed with an open mind.
Now your proably wondering why this movie would have anything to do with website design or even branding which is mainly what I try and focus on on this blog.
When it comes to Personal Branding, it’s about being transparent, it’s about being the real you.
But do we really know who we are? What shapes and molds us into who we are?
From the moment we are born, we are bombarded with signals that shape the course of our lives. As we get older we have the opportunity to make a choice as the direction that these signals point us too.
Our parents try and mold us, the media tries to persuade us, and the state of our economy in many cases tries to dictate what we can or can not do.
Please, don’t let this happen to you, step outside the box and be or become what ever your inner heart desires.
When we do this, we are able to see a whole new world and a new perspective on life, and take the bull by the horns and create a new life for ourselves that will create an impact on others.
I’d love to hear what you think about the movie, also, please watch this movie with your partner, but put your children in another room, some parts of the movie are vulgar and graphic, and not for the squeamish.
My this be an eye opener.
Have a wonderful day.

Who are you?
Who are you?
With deference to Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Oz, have you asked yourself recently, who am I?
An interesting question, especially when I look at things from a brand perspective.
Why brand you ask?
Because whether you like it or not, you are your own brand and it probably needs some cleaning up!
Your brand is not just your outside look (logo) or your favorite lines (persuasive slogan or tag line). It’s the tangible and intangible assets that others attach to you. Your brand is their observation of you and the sum of all your knowledge.
As a brand you need to ask yourself some hard questions, “Am I valuable to my customers? “, “Can I measure my value? “, “Do I have brand loyalty?” “How do I compete with other brands?”
To truly stand out as a brand, what do you need to have? Continue reading
Are you being Googled?
Are you being Googled?
Hi Guy’s & Gal’s
Are people searching for you on Google? If you are building a personal brand then you should hope that they are.
Being googled is the new millennium version of the reference check. It provides your colleagues, employees, managers, clients, hiring managers and executive recruiters and future customers with critical information about you. Consider: (Good and Bad)
Some recent statistics show that:
- A Harris Interactive poll revealed that 40% of respondents google people to learn about them.
- According to Business Week, 87% of headhunters use Google and social networks to make decisions about candidates and 35% of recruiters have eliminated candidates based on what Google revealed
- Accenture included the total number of relevant Google results as one of three measures they used to develop their list of the Top 50 Business Gurus.
Clearly, people are making decisions about you based on what they find online.
Your Google results may be the determining factor in whether an executive recruiter calls you in for an interview, your manager decides to promote you or a prospective client chooses to work with you. It’s no longer a luxury, it’s a requirement for you to build and continuously manage your on-line identity.
A good thing to remember while you are posting to social networks, your own website or blog, Twitter, Facebook and even MySpace, is that everything you say and do in print will last a lifetime online. Be wise.
Have a wonderful day.

What is Your “WHY”?
Hey Guy’s & Gal’s,
A while back I wrote about “Are You Being Real.” And in that article I mentioned that image is everything and that we tend to gravitate toward the next best thing instead of doing what we do best.
Many guru’s will tell you that you can make money online with whatever you are passionate about. I’d like to say a big Hogwash! It’s not really about your passion, and I know many of you will disagree with me on this and that’s ok, but hear me out.
Let me ask you a question.
What is the Main #1 reason your in business, or starting a business online? Continue reading
Does your product really sell itself?
Hey Guy’s and Gal’s, in today’s post we’re going to focus on branding and what it can do for your business.
Branding is the starting point of your marketing plan and should always go together with your business strategy. Branding should be done so that it altogether meets both the needs and expectations of customers and the objectives of the business.
Branding lays down the groundwork for your entire business. Your brand identity ultimately develops in line with what people think of you. Yet many businesses skip the process of branding, relying mainly on the product or service to sell itself.
Does your product really sell itself? A strong brand versus a strong product, which is most important? I think that the product is merely one component out of several other parts that are connected to your brand identity. The brand is everything associated with the product that influences the choosing and buying decisions of customers. Branding takes the product, a symbol that customers associate to your business, and then sets customers’ mind towards a think-choose process. Continue reading
How Branding Works
How Branding Works
Who you know, has its benefits. But maybe even more important is who knows you. Great branding helps you get known. Great branding builds a relationship between you and your audience. And for a business, a blog, or any kind of endeavor, that relationship is the key to accomplishing whatever you set out to do.
Whether you’re trying to raise awareness, foster change, or increase sales, branding is an investment in making it happen. And when done well, you can leverage your brand for as long as you take care of it and keep it alive. Your brand has a job to do. And step by step, this is how it works to get you known:
1.Get Attention
Business is a competitive sport. You can have the greatest product in the world, but if no one notices it sitting beside a hundred others on the shelf, all is lost.
And whether your arena is the store aisle, the multi-billion page internet, or the hyper-competitive corporate ladder, your brand is your flag. It’s what gets noticed. Its very first job is to turn heads.
Hey, Over Here!
Yeah! Over Here.
Getting attention is tricky. It’s not too difficult to get attention. All you have to do is be the most outrageous. But being the most outrageous doesn’t necessarily translate into what you want to happen next. Because after you start turning heads, you want people to actually stop and take notice.
So you only have one goal in getting attention, and that’s to get to the next step; sparking interest.
What are you doing to spark interest?
I’d love to hear your comments.
Tim
Do you hide behind your product?
We have all heard that if you want to make it big in any work from home business you must personally brand yourself. Get away from hiding behind the product and show the world who you are and what you have to offer. But can we take this too far? Let’s take a few moments to examine the difference between letting your customer know who you are and simply giving too much information.
Now I am all for personal branding and I am a firm believer in the fact that people are inspired by people and not corporations. This is even more accurate in any work from home opportunity. People need to see that the common folk can make this happen. They need to be able to relate to your struggles of not being able to make ends meet and how yourself, with a little hard work were able to make your mark in business. You can watch a spokesperson on TV all day saying how easy something is to, do but when you see Bob and Doris from Walla Walla, Washington replace their yearly income in 9 months, people tend to be more open to an idea.
This is why most companies encourage their people to self brand themselves for the simple reason they have crushed the numbers on human behavior and realize that people not only don’t like big corporations, they simply do not trust them.
So being able to connect with people is by far your greatest asset. It is for this reason that the big players in work from home are usually people that can connect with the average person and have something in common with them. It is for this reason you hear the famous phrase, “if I can do it, anyone can do it.” Trust me on this fact, it is not an accident that so many work from home businesses use this infamous line.
What are you doing to connect with your followers and future customers.
Until next time, have a wonderful day.
