Social Media

Social Networking or Bust

Hey Guy’s and Gal’s,

I recent read an article on the New York Times that was entitled “The Web Means the End of Forgetting”

And one paragraph in-particular talked about “The Library of Congress” where it stated:

There are more than 100 million registered Twitter users, and the Library of Congress recently announced that it will be acquiring — and permanently storing — the entire archive of public Twitter posts since 2006.

Now, not only the Library of Congress but, more and more employers are looking to the internet as a part of there search for new employees. In some cases this is a good thing, but then again maybe not.

If you have posted something in a negative light, that could be used against you as stated in the above article by JEFFREY ROSEN Published: July 19, 2010

So in leiu of all of this, does thing change your perception of social media? Does it change how you look at social media?

If you are outsourcing your social media tasks to a third party I would clearly define what they can or can not do, and if your doing it yourself I would be very careful how you portray yourself online.

What are your thoughts? I encourage you to be careful in your social media usage.

Have a wonderful day
Timothy

Where was social media a decade ago

The internet over the last decade has seen many drastic changes we never even thought would materialize. One such innovation is the creation of social networking sites. They attract a whopping number of members with the amazing features and versatile capabilities they make available to everyone.

Most people use social networking sites for the genuine purpose of linking up with family and friends worldwide. Where internet users have long relied on the simple email to stay in touch through cyberspace, these types of sites have offered a more enjoyable way to hook up and share news, information and milestones with hundreds, if not thousands of users scattered across the globe. Since most users may not have a website of their own, social networking sites provide an easy, all-encompassing portal to stay in touch with the rest of the world.

You can read about a friend’s latest involvement in an advocacy or follow another with the pictures he posts on his latest travel sortie. Being on a social networking site like Facebook, MySpace or Twitter for example, means having the capacity to easily communicate and share information wherever you are. In this aspect, these sites becomes a great aid in staying connected and keeping in touch.

There are other people, however, who use social networking sites to promote their own websites or businesses. Signing up on these social sites, they hope other users will explore their profiles and click on their links to visit their business sites. To a certain extent, it has worked for many, especially if they are in a group that shares the same interest as they do.

There’s no harm in using social networking sites to promote your interests, provided that you do so responsibly and considerately. As long as you don’t flood the site with unending updates to sell your business for free and get the site spammy, it can be an effective gateway for people to tell others what they’re good at and probably reciprocate such by providing opportunities for others to move themselves forward.

What thoughts could you give our readers who are just starting using social media. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Have a wonderful day
Tim

How do you handle complaints?

Social Media Marketing is built on the basis of first creating a rapport with people and then converting those people into clients after they learn to know like and trust you. If problems arise it is very important to remember that the relationship must always come first or the customer will feel duped.

When someone becomes upset about a product or service you provided and they call you to discuss the problem you have two choices. You can honor your refund policy with grace, dignity and respect and thus maintain the bond between you and your customer or you can make the customer feel guilty and feel like they have done something wrong because they are displeased and then honor the refund policy.

It is amazing to me that anyone would pick the second choice when they are only shooting themselves in the foot but after interviewing many people I have found out it happens all the time. Why would you try to make them feel like a failure? Everyone HATES to feel like a failure and once they do they NEVER want to put in that situation again so that means they won’t ever be calling you again.

Now you might say good so what if you feel like they were unreasonable but the fact of the matter is, you have a lot more to lose than one client. You have all their friends and family to lose as well and remember because of the Internet they have a lot more friends than they used to. Potentially thousands on Facebook and Twitter and other social networks. Continue reading

Update to Traffic Rush,

We I guess, since I started using Tweettrafficrush.com it hasn’t proven to display my tweets in the sidebar as expected and today I found that there service has been down for quite sometime. I will give them another 24 hours to get it all together before I make any rash decisions to whether or not keep the service.

Update: April 15th, 2010
Apparently, TweetTrafficrush was offline almost all day yesterday due to an apparent spam complaint, but everything is back and running as it should.

But I still had a problem with Tweets not showing up in my widget. Apparently according to the FAQ this is what I found.

I followed all the instructions, put the code on my blogs and all I get is an empty box. Why?
It means no one have added twitter account in that category which you’ve selected in your widget. Site has just launched so wait for some days. When someone adds twitter account in that category, it’ll start showing in your widget.

So apparently this means that in order for this work in my specified category. Hmm
If your a website designer please join me to build up this category by following the link below.

Maliciousness on Facebook and Twitter

Maliciousness on Facebook and Twitter
- by Timothy Caron

In a recent article in the New York Times they talked about how malicious programs are ramping through websites like Facebook and Twitter by taking over user accounts and promoting there own wares.

One user after not using his account for several days was contacted by an acquaintance and asked him about the $500 Gift Cards he was promoting on his Twitter account. Being unaware of the whole thing he logged into his Twitter account and found that his account had been hijacked.

Has this happened to you?

In retrospect, it is always a good idea to at least log into your account on a daily basis and review your posts to make sure that what you have posted is truly yours. And also check your followers posts to see if there is anything out of the ordinary going on.

The reason why I say this, your followers may be being hijacked as well. And it may serve you well to help out your followers as well.

Please read the article in it’s entirty here.

I’d love to hear your comments.
Until next time have a wonderful day.

Twitter Tapping!

Twitter Tapping!

Hey Guy’s and Gal’s in a recent article published: December 12, 2009 by The New York Times it states that…

The government is increasingly monitoring Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites for tax delinquents, copyright infringes and political protesters. A public interest group has filed a lawsuit to learn more about this monitoring, in the hope of starting a national discussion and modifying privacy laws as necessary for the online era.

In the article it continues to state that law enforcement is not saying a lot about its social surveillance, but examples keep coming up. Continue reading

Axe Your Webmaster

Axe Your Webmaster
-by Timothy Caron

Hey Guy’s and Gal’s, I just got through watching a video by Mark McLaren over at Wordpress TV that talks about Wordpress and the Social Web.

049_axe-in-head_fsThis video was very enlightening and really made me think about the direction of even my own website and the services that I provide in regards to website design.

The Static Website, is now becoming almost obsolete. And I say this only because we are social creatures and genuinely need that social interaction. Whether it be a one on one situation or in a group setting we are social creatures and long for some type of interaction.

Wordpress And Social Media are bridging the gap. We can now with the combination of Wordpress and other Social Media websites such as Twitter, Facebook, Linked-In and so many others, enter into a whole new realm of communication.

Are you engaging your customers and or visitors in such a way that will cause them to interact with you, whether on a business or personal level?

Take a few moments to watch the video by Mark and let us know your thoughts.

What are you doing in your current online presence to interact with your customers and visitors?

Until next time, have a wonderful day
Timothy
